What is a Mind the Seas scuba diving expedition?

Our scuba diving expeditions take small groups of certified divers to remote, wildlife-rich places: the open-ocean pinnacles of the Revillagigedo Archipelago in Mexico, the blue-water hammerhead dives of Yonaguni in Japan and the protected reefs of Cabo Pulmo in Baja California Sur.

Each journey is planned around a natural event and led by experienced dive professionals who know these waters. A professional photographer documents every expedition, and every trip supports marine restoration through our partnership with NAR.

Prefer to stay at the surface? Our ocean wildlife safaris are snorkeling expeditions that need no scuba certification.

How we run our diving expeditions

Small groups

We keep groups small, so briefings are personal, dives feel calm and everyone has space to enjoy each encounter.

Planned around nature

Each expedition is timed with a natural event, such as the Sardine Run in November, and every day adapts to the ocean’s conditions rather than forcing encounters.

Experienced leadership

Our expeditions are led by dive professionals, and a professional photographer and videographer documents the trip so you can focus on the dive.

Responsible by design

We dive in protected areas such as Cabo Pulmo National Park and the Revillagigedo marine reserve, follow local rules and treat every wildlife encounter as a privilege, never a guarantee.

Diving that gives back

For every Mind the Seas expedition, we install a new biotope in the Mediterranean Sea with NAR (Natural Art Reef Association). These artificial reefs, made from calcium carbonate rock, give marine life shelter and help degraded habitats recover.

From our divers

The dive expedition on the Azores with Mind the Seas was a mesmerising experience shared with fellow ocean enthusiasts, exploring both the wild land and sea of the Atlantic island groups. […] I would always choose to travel with Mind the Seas again.

Scuba diving expeditions: FAQs

What is the difference between a scuba diving expedition and an ocean wildlife safari?

Our scuba diving expeditions are built around scuba dives and require a diving certification. Our ocean wildlife safaris are snorkeling and freediving expeditions at the surface, so no scuba certification is needed. Best of Baja combines both: snorkel encounters with the Sardine Run and whale sharks, and scuba dives in Cabo Pulmo.

What diving certification do I need?

It depends on the expedition. Best of Baja requires at least Open Water Diver for the scuba dives. Yonaguni requires Advanced Open Water. Revillagigedo requires Advanced Open Water and at least 50 logged dives, because the dives take place in open water with currents.

Do you run liveaboard diving expeditions?

Yes. Our Revillagigedo expedition is a nine-day liveaboard with four dives a day, from 22 to 30 January 2027.

Which of your expeditions include shark diving?

Yonaguni is known for its schooling scalloped hammerheads, and Revillagigedo for sharks, manta rays and other pelagic life. We choose these destinations for their wildlife, but encounters are never guaranteed.

Is diving equipment included?

Full diving equipment is included in Yonaguni. In Revillagigedo and Best of Baja, rental diving gear is available but not included in the price.

Can I join if I am not a certified diver?

Our scuba diving expeditions require a certification. If you are not certified, our ocean wildlife safaris in La Ventana and Mo’orea are snorkeling expeditions with no certification needed, and our dive instructors can arrange a course for you.

Can I join a diving expedition on my own?

Yes. Most of our explorers travel solo and join a small group of ocean lovers from around the world.

How do I book a place?

Contact us with the expedition and dates you are interested in. We will answer your questions and send you the booking details. A deposit secures your place.

Prefer to stay at the surface?

Our ocean wildlife safaris follow mobula rays, whales and other marine life by snorkel, with no certification needed.
